Love this, Jess! Visiting my mother-in-law (who’s 80) in the Midwest last weekend and was thinking about the art of “visiting,” and the way my MIL (a pro) knows all about the lives of her caregivers, because she asks and she listens. I know this trait is both generational and regional, and I miss it for my students. But I have hope that they’ll find their way through💕
My favorite phrase: "a strange homesickness when I miss what I chose to leave"
Vibrant imagery popping with color, texture, laughter - all the sensory stuff so missing at times in the classroom. Thank you for sharing this link!

Tears, many times.

Beautiful memories and engaging writing. Some parts touched me so that it brought tears to my eyes.
A wonderful homage to small talk! Wish I could’ve sat next to Joan!
All of this.
